In our day to day life pharmacists play an imperative role as they are especially involved in research and manufacture of medicines. As a pharmacist, one has to twig the concerto and effect of medicines. Thus, pharmacy is closely associated with the scientific study. This course of pharmacy aims to develop an understanding of how the body works, the effects of disease, how medicines are made delivered to affect the body and importantly how to ensure that patients get the maximum benefit from medicines with the minimum incidence of side effects. As the use of prescription drugs increases demand for pharmacists will grow in every existing community and with this change in scenario self-employment is another major scope for a pharmacist.
The department of Pharmacology is concerned with the aspects of education and research activities involving effects of drugs on living organisms in respect to chemical nature, origin (natural or synthetic), which affects a biological system. Pharmacology may involve how organisms handle drugs, mechanism of drug action, drug toxicity, the use of drugs as probes to demarcate biological processes in health and disease, identification of new targets for drug action, and the design and development of new drugs. These investigations can occur at the molecular, subcellular, cellular, tissue or whole organism level. Pharmacology is an interdisciplinary discipline employing investigational approaches that may include biochemistry, physiology, immunology, molecular biology, genetics and cell biology. Department of Pharmacology addresses these issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Department laboratories are equipped with amenities for the research in areas like endocrinology, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular, psychopharmacology, cardiovascular etc. Besides this research in the area of Pharmacokinetics and Biochemical Pharmacology are also carried out. The institution is having approved air-conditioned modern animal house by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) with separate forgery, wash area, store for animal food, cages for rats, mice, rabbits and guinea pigs, racks for cages and trolleys etc.
