Applied science is the application of knowledge from one or more natural scientific fields to solve practical problems. Fields of engineering are closely related to applied sciences. Applied science is important for technology development. Its use in industrial settings is usually referred to as research and development (R & D).
It has the following related fields of study
Applied Mathematics
Applied Physics
Applied Chemistry
To establish a centre of excellence in basic sciences such as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry that provide foundation for engineering studies and also in communication skills that helps students to express themselves effectively and to create proficient engineers who can be globally challenged in engineering fundamentals – experimental, analytical, computational and designing abilities.
Keeping the core objectives to create academic excellence in fundamental sciences, the Department of Basic Science aims to encourage advanced teaching learning process and quality research at individual, department and institutional level. It also endeavors tobuild quality based knowledge and human resource capacity.
The courses are designed to teach timeless fundamentals underlying the discipline, while preparing the students to apply modern day approaches to materials problems.
To set high standards of comprehensive education by developing the intellectual strength
of students and guiding them towards Scientific and technical excellence.
Be able to apply general mathematics, science and engineering skills to the solution of
engineering problems.
Understand the importance of life-long learning.
Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Be able to communicate effectively while speaking, employing graphics and writing.
The major objective of the department is to enhance the thinking process of the students and make them adaptable to the technical environment. It offers an opportunity to students to develop a deeper understanding of rapidly changing technology through combination of theoretical and experimental study. Its role is to integrate engineering with science and improve student’s awareness of technology.
